Causes Of Pimples
What Is A Pimple?
Pimples can have a nasty habit of appearing just when we least want them to. You know the feeling, that special
occasion is just round the corner and up pops the pimple. As the causes of pimples have been linked (amongst other
things) to stress then perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised. The fact that we are a little stressed about that hot
date, job interview, exam or any other stressful situation, could actually be the trigger that causes the pimple in
the first place.
We define a pimple as a small swelling in the skin, it is usually inflamed and is caused by a blockage of a
pore. It can develop a white head and can consist of pus, oil and skin cell debris. Recurrent or multiple pimples
are termed acne.

How Things Work
When the pores on our skin become blocked, either by dead skin cells, dirt or other factors, this in combination
with the natural oils our skin produces are the main causes of pimples. In these conditions the bacteria that
occurs naturally on our skin can thrive and lead to inflammation around the affected area and the result is a
pimple. Exfoliating our skin regularly can help to prevent pimples as this can stop the accumulation of oil, dead
skin cells and other dirt. A word of warning though, if we clean our skin too much this can cause it to produce
more oil which can aggravate the pimples.
Other Causes
Changes in ones immune system is another of the possible causes of pimples. Our body's immune system protects us
from disease, when it weakens we become more susceptible to infection and pimples can be one of the results. A good
way to boost our immune system is to add more zinc to our diet, this can help fight infections including those that
cause pimples.
Changes in our hormonal balance are thought to be another of the causes of pimples, this would explain why some
women experience a pimple or two during their monthly cycle. Of course many teenagers suffer with pimples at a time
when their hormones are raging due to the onset of puberty. Increased stress levels can stimulate the body's
production of various hormones, these hormones can trigger changes in the skin such as increased oil production.
This in turn can lead to clogged pores, increasing the chances of a pimple. Removing sources of stress along with
learning some relaxation techniques can help remove some of the causes of pimples and help you achieve clearer
skin.
Treatments
For treating the occasional pimple there are many over the counter topical creams that will help combat the
outbreak. If you suffer from more regular outbreaks then maybe looking at your lifestyle and personal habits will
help alleviate the causes of pimples. A good hygiene regime and a healthy balanced diet could be beneficial. Many
people now are looking at ways to tackle the causes of pimples rather than the symptoms by moving towards a more
holistic approach.
